A new feature is about to appear in the Steam World! A set of special trading cards (Steam Trading Card) will enter as a sign of gratitude for gamers, who are especially active in the community… System which launched today, offers participating players (specific to certain game) cards that can be redeemed for rewards – badges, special backgrounds, coupons… In case you wanted to know, Steam Trading Cards involves at the moment just a couple of games: Don’t Starve, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Team Fortress 2 Portal 2, and Half-Life 2… But we can hope for more titles to appear in the near future, as Valve states.
About a half of the cards making a certain set is obtained through game-play, but the other can be earned only through collecting! Upon collecting a full set, gamers are able to craft it into a badge! Badges are attached to the player’s profile as a sign of gratitude and skill… These badges are tied to an account and are shown off in a player’s profile. “Many games have achievements that are grindy or un-fun to get, and we want the act of getting game cards to be fun for all users in games,” Valve said. “We also don’t want to push users to cheat or use achievement-unlockers in games in order to get cards, since that devalues achievements and isn’t that fun either.”
This is not all on badges yet! Upon crafting, player is able to receive a random reward – a game related item! Rewards can be traded and include downloadable content, game coupons and other types of prizes! At the moment, Steam Cards can be collected upon reaching a certain set of time within a game, independently of other achievements players obtain! Valve is currently working on how the other types of cards can be gained!
