Today we are doing a review of the Word Puzzles For Fun, an addictive game made for iPhone and iPad. We tested the game on our iPhone 5, a slightly older iPhone version in order to see the performance of this game on older devices. We are going to go over the gameplay, focusing on the features of the game before we determine the final grade for it. So let’s get started.
When you start the game, you are taken to the start screen where you can choose between two modes of playing: Packages and Quests. We are going to do an in-depth overview of both modes.
When playing on the Packages mode, it is as if you are playing an old-school game on arcade mode. You are going one topic after another. You choose your gaming package and start the game. The only package available at the moment is the Puzzles package, and you have an option of unlocking a Movies package as well. When you choose a package you are taken to an another menu where you must choose a general topic. The topics vary, but they are pretty common, going over a few dozen topics. After you choose a topic, you finally start the game. The key is to find as many words as you can in the shortest possible period of time, as it is with any other word puzzle. During the game you earn points by solving puzzles.
The Quests mode is currently still under development. The only available level is level 1, with 3 quests, but the quest seem not to be functional yet.
There are also in-game coins. You use coins to get hints (50 coins), remove some characters in order to find the word easier (80 coins) and to reveal the word (300 coins). You can purchase the coins by clicking the money bag icon in the top right corner of the user interface. The prices go from 0.99$ (1000 coins), 3.99$ (3000 coins + 1000 free), 4.99$(5000 coins + 3000 free) and 9.99$ (10000 coins + 10000 free).
The GUI (Graphical User Interface) of the word puzzle is really nice and the game works really fast, considering that we are testing it on an older model of iPhone. There is a really catchy tune playing in the background, making you to forget about the time you spent playing.
Let’s check the pros and cons of this game:
PROS:
-the game is highly addictive
-it is easy to play
-the tune is catchy, and it helps you to focus on the game
CONS:
-there are still parts of the game under development
-some short words tend to appear multiple times in one puzzle, but you can only click on one and you waste time while trying to find the right one
-the diagonal words can’t be selected, we spent 300 coins to reveal the word that we tried to select multiple times
-some words are misspelled
All in all, it is a pretty good game. As it is still under development, we can say that it might be great in the future. There are some minor glitches, but we hope that those will be fixed in the future.
