When PlayStation first introduced the charming little robot companion in Astro’s Playroom, it captured hearts with its joyful platforming and playful homage to PlayStation history. Astro Bot (PS5) steps up that legacy — it’s a full-fledged, supersized 3D platforming adventure, built for next-gen hardware, and full of surprises. With more than 50 planets to explore, new powers to master, and a celebration of PlayStation’s iconic characters, Astro Bot – Ps5 promises to be a fitting next chapter for fans and newcomers alike.

In this review, I’ll walk through my user experience with the game, highlight its key strengths (and a few caveats), and give my verdict on whether Astro Bot is worth your time.

User Experience

From the moment I launched Astro Bot, the game feels polished and inviting. The loading times are minimal—thanks to the PS5’s SSD, you hardly wait before jumping into action. The visual presentation is vibrant and crisp in 4K, with detailed environments, expressive character animations, and smooth camera work.

Controls & Feel
One of the standout aspects is how Astro Bot leverages the DualSense controller. The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers really make a difference: each bounce, punch, or power activation feels tactile in your hands. The responsiveness is excellent, which is critical for a platformer where precision matters.

Exploration & Variety
The game sends you across over 50 distinct planets, each with its own theme — from sandy beaches to lush jungles to volcanic zones. The environments feel imaginative and diverse, keeping the progression fresh. As you go, you’ll look for scattered bots to rescue (totalling some 300 bots) and collect coins that can be spent in the in-game “Gatcha Lab.”

Challenges & Content
Once I got used to the movement and powers, the stages started offering clever level design, hidden paths, and optional challenges. After the main campaign, there are new downloadable levels added at no extra cost. These bonus stages also come with time-attack modes and leaderboards, adding replay value.

Immersion & Presentation
Sound design and 3D audio support help you feel immersed in Astro’s universe. Occasional cameos by over 150 PlayStation “VIP bots” — characters inspired by iconic PlayStation franchises — add fan service and fun surprises.

That said, there are a few small niggles. At times, camera angles can feel a little aggressive, especially in tight platforming sections. Some planets may feel more linear than others. Also, in rare cases, I spotted minor visual pop-in at distant edges (though nothing game-breaking).

Feature What It Brings to the Table
Supersized Adventure & Diverse Worlds Over 50 planets across multiple galaxies, each with distinct visual style and level gimmicks.
Powers & Abilities New mechanics like Monkey Climber, Barkster Booster, and Twin-Frog Gloves let Astro traverse environments creatively and engage enemies in fun ways

Conclusion

Astro Bot on PS5 is an excellent showcase of what a modern, high-budget platformer can be when it leans fully into the strengths of its hardware. It offers a delightful mix of charm, challenge, polished execution, and fan-oriented touches. The use of the DualSense controller, the breadth of worlds to explore, and the extra post-launch content all combine to make it feel like a rich, complete package.

If you’re a fan of platformers, or just enjoy playful, family-friendly adventures, Astro Bot is a must-try. Even for seasoned players, the challenges are fitting without being punishing, and the game rewards exploration and curiosity.
